Tennova Healthcare - Turkey Creek Medical Center Acquires New Robotic Surgery System
4/22/2025
For years, minimally invasive, robotic surgery has resulted in better outcomes and decreased recovery time for patients, and now Turkey Creek Medical Center is taking that care to the next level, with a newer, more sophisticated robotic system.
Marc Campbell, D.O., chair of surgery at Tennova Surgical Associates, is among the surgeons at Tennova Healthcare – Turkey Creek who is using the new surgical system.
“This technology offers enhanced precision, dexterity, and visualization which improves accuracy and minimizes trauma to surrounding tissue for quicker recovery and better patient outcomes,” said Campbell. “Turkey Creek Medical Center is the first hospital in Knoxville to use this new surgical system, which can be used for general, gynecological, bariatric, colorectal, and urological surgery. “
This system offers more than 150 enhancements over previous versions. Major advancements include improved accuracy and precision with force-sensing technology, enhanced 3D imaging, and better ergonomics for surgeon comfort and surgical viewing.
Previous versions of robotic surgery systems relied on a surgeon’s sight to evaluate how much force to give the instruments, but new feedback technology allows surgeons to feel the push and pull of forces at the instrument tip. This is especially helpful when working with delicate tissue.
The system also levels up with an improved, high-definition, 3D vision system, giving surgeons a clearer, magnified view of the surgical site. This, along with more true color representation, helps with depth perception and allows surgeons to view more anatomical detail.
Like all robotic systems, the surgeon is 100% in control of the robotic-assisted system, which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body.
