Knoxville, TN (May 23, 2023) – Tennova Healthcare’s Turkey Creek Medical Center and North Knoxville Medical Center have each been awarded their 6th consecutive ‘A’ in the spring 2023 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing the Tennova hospitals’ achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare.
The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to healthcare quality and safety. This Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country and is updated every six months. It is based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care. This spring only 29% of almost 3,000 hospitals graded received an “A,” with 39% receiving a “B,” 39% receving a “C,” 6% receiving a “D” and 1% receiving an “F.”
“Receiving our 6th “A” from The Leapfrog Group is a reflection of the continuous dedication that our doctors, nurses and other clinicians demonstrate in support of our mission to provide excellence in quality to our patients,” said Tony Benton, CEO of Tennova Healthcare - East Market.
Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to almost 3,000 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
